Minecraft, Roblox, Plants vs Zombies are surely more popular than chess among children. And yet, children play chess. Don’t you believe me? I’m going to tell you…
Book Fair 2022. My son is more excited about toys than books. So far we bought a couple of comics and a fossilized ant in plastic. The stands in the last rows belong to the publishers of brain teasers, crossword puzzles and other herbs. Nothing of my interest until I see the chess games neatly displayed along with books that teach how to play. Now I have the combo I was looking for without knowing it!

The next few days at home, I read chapter by chapter and teach my son the new things I learn. He gets it right away. He’s like a sponge.
Family reunion. We carry the chess. My little nephew who still talks toddler, gets excited and learns to move the touch tiles. My son is already playing the expert, even if he doesn’t know much more.
Trip to Chacabuco. We visited the older cousin who is already finishing elementary school and oh, surprise! he learned to play chess online. I don’t have to explain to him how to locate and move the tiles. On the contrary, he wins every game.
I find out that children play chess. Almost naturally. They are not inhibited in the face of the game that supposedly is only for intellectuals.
Every chess master was once a beginner.

Back at home I start playing online chess to get fit. Kids are tough.
