Family Game Console: the nostalgia of a childhood in the 90s
For those of us who grew up in the 90s in Argentina, that image says more than a thousand words. The console known as the Family Game was a classic for the middle class, enjoyed by both adults and children. What many of us may not have known at the time is that our beloved console was an imitation of a version created by Nintendo for the Asian market called the Family Computer.
The Family connected to the TV via an A/V cable and had two fairly simple joysticks. The games were available via 8-bit cartridges that were purchased separately. You would often get cartridges that claimed to have hundreds of games, which would then either not work or turn out to be different versions of the same game. Despite this, for me, the Family evokes afternoons of chocolate, Boca de Dama cookies and family fun.
Let’s look at some of the most popular games
⇒ Mario Bros.
This duo of brothers hardly requires an introduction, since they became the flagship game of the Nintendo brand. Mario and Luigi are given the task of rescuing Princess Peach from the clutches of the evil King Bowser. For that, they must cross the kingdom defeating the little turtles that are Bowser’s henchmen. The heroes are collecting coins and breaking walls in search of special powers.
⇒ Bomberman
In this game, a little man goes through a maze placing bombs to eliminate some monsters that get in his way. In order to pass the level, Bomberman must eliminate all the bad guys and find the door, which is hidden behind a brick wall.
⇒Duck Hunting
In Duck Hunt, the objective was to shoot some ducks that were flying across the screen. It had the particularity that for this game a special accessory was needed, which was a light gun. One of the most memorable aspects of the game was the fact that it featured a hunting dog that laughed when the player didn’t hit any ducks.
THANK YOU MARIO!
